Alongside electronics manufacturing, Kameda runs CNC milling and turning, laser cutting and laser welding, so the enclosure, the brackets, the front panel and the production fixtures are made in the same plant as the board that goes inside them. Boards and mechanical parts are trial-fitted together here, which is what makes a dimensional problem quick to correct: the part is remachined rather than re-quoted and reshipped.

CNC machining

Milling and turning in aluminium, stainless steel, copper and engineering plastics, for enclosures, front panels, brackets, heat spreaders and fixture bodies. Small batches and prototypes are the normal case, and single pieces are accepted. Drawings are reviewed before cutting to agree datum faces, work holding and tool access, so the questions arrive before the material does.

Laser cutting

Sheet blanking and profile cutting are done by laser: narrow kerf, small heat-affected zone, clean edges, and thin material in particular comes off well. Typical work is sheet metal blanks, panel cut-outs, cut lettering and profiling of non-metallic sheet. The program is generated from your drawing, so a dimensional revision does not require new tooling. That matters while the mechanical design is still moving.

Laser welding

Laser welding concentrates heat in a narrow zone, giving low distortion, a fine bead and less grinding on visible seams. It suits thin-wall stainless parts, sealed structures and products where the weld is on show. For seams with a leak-tightness or strength requirement, parameters are proven on test coupons before the batch runs. Compared with conventional arc welding, both distortion and straightening work are lower.

Sheet metal and structural parts

Sheet metal follows blanking, bending, forming, welding and finishing. Chassis, brackets, mounting plates and shield cans are routine work. Flat patterns are calculated here from material thickness and bend radius rather than unfolded straight from the model, which is where dimensional error usually appears. Parts that assemble together are machined together and trial-fitted together.

How this ties into electronics assembly

Most of the mechanical work exists to serve a board: enclosures, front panels, brackets and shield cans, plus the jigs and fixtures used in assembly and test. Reflow carriers, test probe plates and assembly locating fixtures are low in quantity and change often, which is exactly the case for making them in-house. Box build and the manual assembly line are in the same plant, so finished parts go straight into assembly.

Common materials

  • Metals: aluminium alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, copper and copper alloys
  • Plastics: ABS, PC, POM, acrylic and similar engineering plastics
  • Sheet: metal sheet blanked, bent and formed; non-metallic sheet laser cut
  • Fixture materials: selected against load, wear and ESD requirements

Tolerance and finishing

General machined parts are held to ISO 2768-m unless the drawing says otherwise. Mating faces, assembly hole positions and threads are controlled to whatever the drawing calls out, so mark those dimensions on the print. Critical dimensions and the inspection method are confirmed before the order is accepted, so nothing is made exactly to print and still fails to assemble. Finishing is chosen by application: anodising, bead blasting, powder coating, plating or passivation on metal parts, paint and silkscreen on plastics, bare material where nothing is specified.
